Licensing

Kaisoft is licensed software. Your license file controls which features are active, how long they’re active for, and your edition limits.

  • Kai, the AI agent — Kai only works with an active license. Without one, the chat panel is locked.
  • Edition & modules — which Kaisoft modules your workspace can use.
  • Limits — maximum connections, users, and scheduled jobs.
  • Expiry — licenses are time-limited and must be renewed.

Everything else stays usable without a license — you can still sign in, connect data sources, build dashboards, and run reports. Only Kai is locked.

Your Kaisoft contact sends you a license file (.jwt) alongside your download link. You can also request one from the app — when Kai is locked, click Request a license from Kaisoft.

  1. Click License (key icon) in the left sidebar.
  2. Drag your .jwt license file onto the drop zone, or click to browse.
  3. Kaisoft validates the file and activates it immediately — no restart needed.

Once active, the License page shows your edition, expiry date, enabled modules, and a Public Preview badge for preview licenses.

  • The License page shows your expiry date and days remaining.
  • You’ll see a warning when fewer than 7 days remain.
  • When a license expires, a banner appears and Kai is locked again until you upload a new file.
  • To renew, request a new license and upload it the same way — activation is immediate.

Check two things:

  1. License — open the License page and confirm a license is active and unexpired.
  2. AI provider — Kai also needs at least one AI provider configured under Settings → AI Providers (see Configuration).

If both look correct and Kai still won’t respond, see Troubleshooting.
